During the tour, we have an opportunity to explore various parts of Georgia. Our journey is dedicated firstly, to three cave towns of the country: Uplistsikhe, Davit Gareja and Vardzia, located in various parts of Georgia and secondly, to the homeland of wine – Kakheti, where we have an opportunity to get to know local traditional way of winemaking. Of course, we taste different types of wine made in Georgian and European methods and delicious dishes of Georgian cuisine.

Day 1

The first day of the journey takes place in the capital of Georgia – Tbilisi. After wandering through narrow streets and districts of the old town, we visit Abanotubani, famous with sulfur bathes. The place is related to the foundation of Tbilisi, as according to the legend, king Vakhtang Gorgasali discovered this place in the 5th century and decided to build a city on this location. During the tour, we also visit ancient Narikala Fortress, Anchiskhati Church of the 6th century, Monument of Kartlis Deda (Mother of Georgia) and other sightseeing.

Day 2

Tbilisi – Paravani – Vardzia
Today we take a direction to southern part of Georgia via Paravani Pass. On our way, we discover an old German village Elizabetal, nowadays known as Asureti, Paravani Lake and Phoka Nunnery of St. Nino, constructed in the 11th century. The monastery is related to St. Nino from Cappadocia – preacher of Christianity in Georgia. The day ends up with arriving and hiking (one hour) in Vardzia – a cave city carved in rock in the 12th century.

Day 3

Vardzia – Saro – Vardzia
Today we drive to the village of Saro to visit megalithic fortress and Archangel Nunnery of the 7th century. Afterwards, we drive to Khertvisi fortress and our day ends up with spectacular Vani Caves – monastery complex carved in rock in the 8th century.

Day 4

Vardzia – Uplistsikhe – Tbilisi
We start the fourth day of our journey by visiting Sapara Monastery of the 9th century. The church keeps well-preserved frescoes performed in the 14th century. We drive towards Akhaltsikhe to visit Rabati Fortress and then, continue our trip to the second cave town – Uplistsikhe – city carved in rock, considered as one of the ancient settlements in Caucasus.

Day 5

Tbilisi – Davit Gareja – Sighnaghi
In the morning, we drive towards wine region – Kakheti, to visit cave monastery complex of Davit Gareja of the 6th century. Monastery is located at the border of Georgia-Azerbaijan. After visiting David’s Lavra, we have approximately three hours of hiking through the territory, where we discover amazing landscapes and unique frescoes of Udabno monastery. Afterwards, our trip continues to the city of Sighnaghi to enjoy wonderful views over Alazani Valley and Caucasus Mountains.

Day 6

Sighnaghi – Gremi – Kvareli
We start day with driving to Gremi – capital of Kakheti Kingdom in the 15th century. Gremi consists of the royal citadel, the church of Archangels and the former town. After exploring the place, we continue our journey to Nekresi Monastery of the 6th century, founded by one of the thirteen Assyrian fathers and situated on top of a steep hill overlooking Alazani valley. Afterwards we drive to city of Kvareli to get to know traditional Georgian and European methods of winemaking and taste wine of several types.

Day 7

Kvareli – Alaverdi – Ikalto – Kisiskhevi
On the seventh day of our journey, we take a direction towards one of the biggest cathedral of Georgia – Alaverdi, and then we continue our trip to Tsinandali to visit house-museum of Alexander Chavchavadze. The museum has its own ancient wine cellar (marani), where wine was produced and bottled in the European method for the first time in the history of Georgia.

Day 8

Kisiskhevi – Mtskheta – Tbilisi
The last day of our journey, we start with driving towards Mtskheta, once the capital of Georgian Kingdom – Iberia, where Christianity became official religion in 337. After visiting Svetitskhoveli Cathedral of the 11th century and Jvari Monastery of the 6th century (UNESCO), we visit Monastery of Shio Mgvime and return to Tbilisi.
