Guria is situated in the west part of Georgia and consists of three parts. Partially Guria borders the Black Sea coastline, where resort of Ureki, famous for its magnetic sands having healing properties is located. Lake Paliastomi and its vicinity is fabulous, especially during the period of annual bird migration, when the lake attracts various water birds and millions of them even winter there. Because of the Black Sea subtropical climate, vegetation and almost impenetrable lower forests resemble real tropical jungles. Guria boasts with its spectacular highlander resort called Bakhmaro, one of the most beautiful sites of the country with amazing beauty and breathtaking landscapes hidden in the clouds. To get to Bakhmaro in winter is possible only on a helicopter or a special snow vehicle. Guria is the only part of Georgia where the ancient national rugby like sport called Lelo has been preserved. Gurian national polyphonic song – Krimanchuli -performed in seven voices is exceptional. Among lots of cultural monuments is worth to see Udabno Monastery (16th century) and Shemokmedi Monastery (13th century).
