Abkhazia

Tusheti

Tusheti is one of the most beautiful highlander regions of Caucasus. Khevsureti

Caucasus Mountain divides Khevsureti into two parts: northeast site or Pirikita Khevsureti and southwest site or Piraketa Khevsureti. Pirikita Khevsureti consists of Mighmakhevi, Shatili and Arkhoti gorges; Piraketa consists of Aragvi River Gorge. Khevi

Khevi is located at the Northeastern part of Georgia, which you can reach by passing its neighbor region Mtiuleti. Mtiuleti starts from Ananuri Church and Fortress, where used to be the gorge of Aragvi, which today is replaced by Zhinvali Reservoir supplying Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, with drinking water. Shida Kartli

Shida Kartli is situated in the central part of Georgia. The first Georgian kingdom called Iberia was formed on the territory of Shida Kartli. Archeological discoveries have proved that men lived in the territory as far back as the third millennium B.C. There are also tombs discovered in Shida Kartli, with bodies buried according to the Christian rules that belong to the 2nd and 3rd centuries. Kvemo Kartli

Kvemo Kartli occupies quite a vast territory of Georgia and is situated in the southeast part of the country. Metallurgical city of Rustavi built by Germans before the World War II belongs to Kvemo Kartli and is situated near Tbilisi. Bolnisi region, nowadays inhabited mostly by Azerbaijanis, is also very interesting. Until World War II, its name was Luxemburg region and was populated by German colonists – Swabian Germans. They turned this place into a European town. The Germans had organized breweries, a fire department and hunting clubs. There are well-preserved German vestiges of many villages in Kvemo Kartli: traditional houses, remains of Lutheran churches and cemeteries. Samtskhe-Javakheti

Samtskhe-Javakheti consists of three geographical units, these are: Tori, Meskheti and Javakheti. Historical name of Borjomi gorge and its vicinity is called Tori. The city of Borjomi is Georgians beloved resort. It turned into a resort by the end of the 19th century, when it attracted interest of the Russian imperial family of the Romanovs. Borjomi is rich in acid mineral water, which is being exported around the world under the brand name of Borjomi. A narrow railway constructed in 1901 leads from Borjomi to the famous ski resort Bakuriani – rich in pine forests. Imereti

Imereti is located in the central part of west of Georgia and is divided into two parts: upper and lower Imereti. This site of Georgia is abundant with rivers, which is the reason of rich flora and fauna existing here. The capital of west Georgia is Kutaisi, which used to be the capital of old Georgian kingdom – Kolkheti, present Imereti. Kutaisi is mentioned in the Greek myth about Argonauts.
